Cleaning and Writing
I’ve always enjoyed cleaning and writing. I get writing ideas while I clean, so in a way it’s a win/win. There’s a challenge to this however because I don’t always want to start cleaning. The feeling frequently follows the action, and I think you can say the same thing about writing. Any writing advice always tells you to write everyday, and any discipline shows you that consistency is essential whether that’s starting a business like cleaning houses or even just the simple practice of journaling everyday.
Putting a simple blog post here on my website wasn’t simple. Cleaning the house I have to clean tomorrow isn’t simple. I had to show up here at my laptop to write and publish this post. I get to show up tomorrow to clean that house. Enjoying something doesn’t always mean you’re going to want to do it because even things we enjoy have drudgery associated with them. The good feelings follow the self-discipline to start them when we don’t want to do them.
Remember that this week as you might be going to a job you don’t really like. When dinner time rolls around on Monday night, and the dinner dishes are before you you may be tempted to veg out in front of the television, but when Tuesday morning rolls around you might regret it as you prepare coffee. This semantic is important all the way through life, so the next time you face any task before you remember that the feelings follow the action.
